A curated collection of Shellmans public recognition and media presence.
Since 2018, Shellman's shell art has been featured in interior and design magazines, national newspapers and on Swedish television. Here is a selection — each article can be opened or downloaded below.
Residence, March 2024. The Dutch interior magazine visited Buster Eriksson's Amsterdam studio for a feature on collecting shells and turning them into decorative art: wall and free-standing sculptures, graphic patterns in glass box frames, lamps and mirror frames — and shells sourced ethically, gathered along Swedish and Dutch coasts, or rescued from restaurants' oyster waste.
Antik & Auktion, 2023. A feature on the full-length shell mirror Luxury Ordeal, a work by Mikael Hjärtsjö and Buster Eriksson.
DI Weekend, 11 August 2023. A Shellman mirror on the cover of Dagens Industri's weekend magazine, framing consultant Christina Synnergren in the issue's lead interview.
Gods & Gårdar, 2022. "Konsten att skapa med snäckor" — a studio visit in Helsingborg tracing Shellman's story from Australian shell artist Paul Bruce via Niels van Alphen in Amsterdam to Mikael and Buster, who have carried the craft since 2018. Beachcombing Magazine, 2021. "Shellmen" — the US magazine's portrait of the two men who left advertising and Apple for shell art: the seven weeks of learning from Niels van Alphen in 2018, the ton and a half of shells that came with the tradition, and their two ways of working — free-form flow, or pattern.
Country Smart, 2021. "Shellman sätter ramarna" — on decorative art, "conversation pieces" and why Swedish has no word for what Shellman makes. Text Kristina Fröling.
Valvets Veranda, autumn 2019. "Hantverk, design & havets egna konstverk" — barnacle wall art, mirror frames built from thousands of shells, and shell art's long history in Australia, the US and Britain, arriving in Sweden through Shellman.
Helsingborgs Dagblad, 7 June 2019. "Ramar utanför ramarna" — the newspaper's culture section on an unusual career change and the only shell artists of their kind in Sweden, ahead of an exhibition.
Hallå Helsingborg, December 2018. The first article: how a chance meeting with Niels van Alphen in Amsterdam, three mirrors bought on the spot and a broken foot led to Shellman — and to frames of up to ten thousand shells, built in a Helsingborg apartment.
SVT, Husdrömmar Sicilien, 2020–2022. In SVT's series, designer and stylist Marie Olsson Nylander and her husband Bill restore an old palazzo in Termini Imerese, Sicily. Shellman made a shell mirror for the house — custom made for Marie and named Cirillo, after the palazzo. Marie has kept Shellman close ever since, featuring our shell mirrors in her stylings and projects. The clip is below.
